We have just returned from a 16-night stay at the Golden Taurus Aquapark Resort in Pineda de Mar, Spain. As always, we had an amazing time staying here and cannot wait to return.
For those of you who have followed Rob on Holiday for a long time, you may know that one of our favourite places to visit in the world is the Golden Taurus Aquapark.
Located in the town of Pineda de Mar, just to the north of Barcelona, this hotel offers great facilities, newly-renovated rooms and an incredible entertainment programme to keep the whole family busy morning to night.
Due to the pandemic, things were a little bit different during this year’s trip, but the staff did an amazing job at providing the same experience regular visitors expect whilst implementing measures to keep everyone safe.
How to Get There
Normally, the easiest way to visit the Golden Taurus Aquapark from the UK is by booking a package through TUI.
This was our original plan this year but, when TUI cancelled our flights to Girona airport, we decided to make our own travel arrangements.
We booked our flights with Easyjet, travelling from Manchester to Barcelona. Although the hotel is closer to Girona airport than Barcelona, the taxi ride from the latter still only takes 45-60 minutes (traffic dependent) and costs around €130.
After sorting out our flights, we booked the hotel directly through their website.
When you book directly with the hotel, you can choose to pay when you book or pay when you get to the hotel, and your booking comes with free cancellation up to 2 days before the start of your stay.
The hotel offers a wide range of board basis, from half board to all inclusive.
We always choose to book all inclusive as it is the most convenient option for us. The all inclusive option includes 3 meals each day of your stay in the hotel’s buffet restaurant, a selection of snacks from the snack bar and unlimited drinks from the hotel’s main bar, pool bars and snack bar (between 10am and 11pm).
This year was the first time we got to stay in the hotel’s newly renovated rooms.
The new rooms are very stylish and comfortable, with each sleeping up to 3 adults.
The rooms have been updated to include USB charging ports by the beds as well as several standard plug sockets. A kettle with tea and coffee making facilities is also a new addition.
You will also find a fridge and a safety deposit box provided in your room. However, to activate the safety deposit box, you will need to pay a small fee (€45 for 2 weeks) and collect a key from reception.
The beds are very comfortable and our rooms were always spotless.
We love the new rooms at the Golden Taurus Aquapark.
The Golden Taurus Aquapark is the perfect hotel for families, with a wide range of facilities available for guests.
There are two main outdoor pool terraces, as well as an indoor swimming pool. The main pool area has two swimming pools, one of which is often used for animation activities, such as Aquagym. This is also where the majority of animation team activities take place, on a stage next to one of the pools. The hotel’s other pool area is quieter and offers a more relaxed experience for those who don’t want to take part in the activities.
Both pool areas have bars which serve both hot and cold drinks throughout the day.
In 2018, the hotel opened a small water park area with a selection of slides, including some specifically for kids.
Admittedly, we are not big water park fans, so we don’t really use the water park, but it is a fantastic facility, especially for families with younger children, although be aware that some of the slides have minimum height restrictions.
In terms of food and drink, in addition to the two pool bars, there is a snack bar and a main indoor bar, where the evening entertainment takes place.
And, of course, you eat your main meals in the buffet restaurant, which offers a wide range of food options.
Our personal favourite is breakfast. The restaurant staff make fresh omelettes and pancakes to order, and they are absolutely delicious.
At lunch and dinner, you will find a selection of meats, potatoes, vegetables, pasta, pizza, cheeses, cakes, fresh fruit, ice cream and so much more. Some show cooking also takes place at these meals as well.
We have picky eaters in our family, and they never have a problem finding something to eat in the restaurant.
The jewel in the hotel’s crown is the extensive entertainment programme.
The animation team keep guests entertained all day with a wide range of activities on offer.
We love playing games by the pool, such as darts, shuffleboard and connect 4, but more sporty activities such as tennis and badminton are also available. There is also a daily shooting competition (rifle shooting, pistol shooting or archery) and aqua gym, which is by far the most popular activity on offer.
If you are visiting the Golden Taurus Aquapark with children, they can visit the Goldy Club to experience a range of activities more suited to younger children, such as handicrafts and mask painting.
At 11am every day, there is a special Golden game for the whole family to play together and try to win a Golden medal.
As the hotel is located in Northern Spain, the main nighttime entertainment takes place indoors.
However, due to the pandemic, the hotel has added a small outdoor stage with live music entertainment every evening from 9:30pm to 11pm. Although we love the main entertainment offered by the animation team, we really enjoyed having the option to go and sit outside later on too.
Indoors, the evening entertainment programme starts with a mini disco for the kids. This year, things are a little different as the children have to sit on chairs to take part, but they still seemed to have a great time joining in with all the dances.
After the mini disco, it’s time to give out the diplomas and medals to the winners of the day’s activities. This usually involves going up on stage and all singing ‘We Are the Champions’, but this year, it is a little more laid back and you simply collect your certificate and go back to your seat.
Every night, there is a chance for the adults to win a free bottle of champagne by taking part in a game on stage. Our personal favourite of these games is musical bingo, where the numbers on traditional bingo cards are replaced with some of the most famous songs of all time, and singing and dancing along is highly encouraged.
The main cabaret show starts at 10pm, and the hotel brings in a wide variety of acts, from a magician to a rock show.
As you can see, the entertainment at the Golden Taurus Aquapark is second to none, and is one of the main reasons why we love coming back to this hotel year after year. The animation team work tirelessly to provide a fun experience for everyone taking part in the games.
One thing is for sure: you will never be bored at this hotel.
We can’t post a trip report this year without talking about COVID restrictions.
At the hotel, masks were mandatory indoors, except when eating and drinking. Masks also had to be worn at all animation team activities, as social distancing wasn’t possible in this situation.
Some people may be worried that wearing a mask in the summer in Spain would be very uncomfortable. However, our experience was that, most of time, we barely noticed we were wearing one. For us, the fact that everyone was wearing masks made us feel safer while participating in the animation activities and sitting in the bar at night, and it did not affect our enjoyment of the holiday whatsoever.
Hand gel dispensers are widely available throughout the hotel to encourage good hand hygiene. We brought our own hand sanitisers, but rarely had to use them as it was more convenient to use the ones provided by the hotel in the reception area and various bars.
Tables in the bars and the main restaurant have been spaced out to help with social distancing indoors, and the buffet restaurant also has an outdoor seating area available for those who would rather dine outside.
Overall, the restrictions in place at the hotel made us feel very safe and did not affect our enjoyment at any stage.
As I’m sure you can tell from the tone of this report, we would definitely recommend you stay at the Golden Taurus Aquapark for your summer holiday.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to help you with any issues that may arise during your stay. Every single member of staff, from the cleaners to the bar staff, go the extra mile to make you feel special, which is why so many returning customers think of this hotel as their second home.
As we mentioned, the animation team are what make this hotel stand out. They keep guests entertained from 11am to 11pm every single day, always have a smile on their face and are very enthusiastic at all the activities.
We cannot thank everyone at the Golden Taurus Aquapark enough for making our latest holiday so special, as they always do. We cannot wait to return next year for another fun-filled 2 weeks in the sun.
It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel is just a 75-minute train ride away from one of the world’s greatest cities: Barcelona.
